Fine Artist Jamie Thompson graduated from Montserrat College of Art in Beverly MA, and went on to earn a Masters of Fine Art degree from SUNY New Paltz in New Paltz, NY. She has exhibited in various galleries located in the United States as well as internationally. Jamie has recently started creating art full time after working in the mental health field for over 10 years. She pulls inspiration from her experiences working in mental health, her travels, as well as her interest in the complex interconnections between people's lives throughout history.
Jamie works with a combination of printmaking, drawing, painting and collage. The themes of memory, home, nature and the ephemeral are represented in her work. She achieves this by blending images of herself with family and strangers, often including discarded documents and photographs to uncover the many layers of a memory.
She portrays her painting subjects by highlighting unique characteristics. The personalities of her subjects are embodied through colorful brushstrokes juxtaposed by a more simplistic background.
Jamie's Artist Books include text delved from memories, creating situations that people throughout time have experienced and can relate to such as love, death and friendship.
The themes of Jamie Thompson’s artwork are not only personal to her, but are rendered in a way that allows the viewers to have their own emotional responses. Jamie's work focuses on the diverse characteristics which make us all human and the idea of the home as an overarching symbol of humanity.
